Exam Pattern for APPSC DEO:
The syllabus for the DEO exam is available on the APPSC official website.
The exam consists of three stages: a screening test (preliminary exam), a main exam, and a Computer Proficiency Test. The preliminary exam is a screening test that is conducted to shortlist the candidates for the main exam. The main exam is an objective test (Degree Standard) that is conducted to assess the candidates’ knowledge and skills in the relevant subjects. The candidates who qualify for the main exam will be called for the Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), which is the final stage of the selection process.
The syllabus for the preliminary exam is as follows:
General Studies and Mental Ability: This paper covers topics such as Indian History, Geography, Current Affairs, Economy, Polity, Science and Technology, Mental Ability, Data Interpretation, etc. The paper consists of 150 objective-type questions, each carrying one mark. The duration of the paper is 150 minutes.
Each wrong answer will be penalized with 1/3rd of the marks prescribed for the question.

The syllabus for the main exam is as follows:
Candidates who cleared the screening test can take the main examination. Appearance in all the papers of Screening and Main examination is compulsory. Main Exam based on Written Examination (Objective Type) which is of Degree Standard
Each wrong answer will be penalized with 1/3rd of the marks prescribed for the question.
- Paper-I: General Studies and Mental Ability
This paper is similar to the preliminary exam paper but with a higher level of difficulty and depth. The paper consists of 150 objective-type questions, each carrying one mark. The duration of the paper is 150 minutes.
- Paper-II: Education – I (Degree Standard)
This paper covers topics related to educational administration and management, such as the Foundation of Education, Educational Psychology, Trends in Education, etc. The paper consists of 150 objective-type questions, each carrying one mark. The duration of the paper is 150 minutes.
- Paper-III: Education – II (Degree Standard)
This paper tests covers topics related to Current trends and challenges in Education, Innovation in Education, Measurements and evaluation, Inclusive Education, etc. The paper consists of 150 objective-type questions, each carrying one mark. The duration of the paper is 150 minutes.
Syllabus for Computer Proficiency Test:
The candidates who qualify for the main exam will have to appear for a computer proficiency test, which will assess their basic knowledge and skills in using computers and MS Office applications. The test will consist of 100 marks and the duration will be 60 minutes.

The candidates who clear all the stages of the exam will be selected for the post of DEO based on their merit, reservation, and availability of vacancies. The candidates will have to undergo a probation period of two years before being confirmed in the service.
