The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination every year to select candidates for the posts of Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist, Scientist ‘B’, Asst. Hydrogeology, Asst. Chemist, and Asst. Geophysicist in the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).   • Start date for Submission of Application: 04-09-2024
  • The last date for Submission of the Application: is 24-09-2024
  • Last date for “Pay by cash” at the counter of SBI Branch: 23-09-2024 till 11.59 PM
  • Last date for online Debit/Credit Card or Internet Banking Payment: 24-09-2024 till 6 PM
  • Date for Correction of Application: 25-09-2024 to 01-10-204 till 6.00 PM.
  • Date for Preliminary Exam: 09-02-2025
  • Date for Main Exam: 21st & 22nd June, 2025
  • Date of Downloading Prelims Admit Card: Will be Announced later

Education Qualification:

  • (i) For Geologist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: Master’s degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo- Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Geochemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or an educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed university under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956) i.e. recognized University.
    (ii) For Geophysicist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics) Group ‘A’ & Assistant (Geophysicist) Group ‘B’ in C.G.W.B. M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics) from a University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature in India or other educational institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or declared to be deemed universities under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
    (iii) For Chemist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical) under C.G.W.B. M. Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature or other educational Institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or declared to be deemed Universities under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 i.e. recognized University.
    (iv) For Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’ and Assistant (Hydrogeologist) Group ‘B’ in C.G.W.B. Master’s degree in Geology or applied Geology or Marine Geology or Hydrogeology from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational Institutes established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
    (v) For Assistant (Chemist) Group ‘B’ in C.G.W.B. Master of Science or Integrated Master of Science in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry or Physical Chemistry or Inorganic Chemistry or Organic Chemistry or Hydro-Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry from a recognized university or institute

Age Limit(as on 01-01-2025):

  • Min. 21 years and Max. 32 years (Check the official notification below for age relaxation).




Selection Procedure:

  • Selection is based on Stage-I: Preliminary Examination (Objective Type Papers), Stage-II: Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination (Conventional Type Papers), and Stage-III: Personality Test/ Interview.

Application Fee:

  • Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST/PwBD who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of State Bank of India or by using Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card/UPI Payment or by using Internet Banking of any Bank.
